Introduction to closed superstring field theory: Lecture 1

Roji Pius

UC, Davis

Closed superstring theory is a framework that successfully combines the principles of quantum mechanics and Einstein’s theory of gravitation. The conventional definition of closed superstring theory, which doesn’t refer to any Lagrangian, is not well suited for dealing with infrared divergences such as mass renormalization and vacuum shift. However, closed superstring field theory, the Lagrangian formulation of closed string theory, is well suited for taming the infrared divergences. This lectures series aims to introduce the basic aspects and some of the recent progress in closed superstring field theory.
