Star and planet formation: The story unfolds

Arpita Choudhary

Stars form in molecular clouds, as a result of cloud collapse. In a huge
unstable clump of molecular cloud, when gravity starts dominating over
thermal pressure, such a collapse begins. Once the star forms, the left
over circumstellar disk may give birth to planets. Star formation process
is very violent and accompanied by jets and outflows which occur time to
time throughout the collapse.
