Nonlinear analysis of EEG signal for ADHD children

The billions of coupled neurons act as information carriers between human body and brain.  Electroencephalography (EEG) is an efficient modality which helps to acquire brain signals corresponds to various states from the scalp surface area. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurological disorder of particular relevance in children. The most common treatment for ADHD is stimulant medication followed by behaviour therapy and cognitive training. EEG signals are collected from ADHD children before and after the cognitive training which is given by psychologist of Calcutta University in CPEPA laboratory (Calcutta University). Power spectrum, fractal analysis (multifractal spectrum), and chaotic analysis (correlation dimension, entropy) have been done on EEG signals of ADHD children to compare pre- and post- cognitive treatment effects. Different statistical measures as repeated measure ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon signed ranked test have been used to study within group and between group statistical effects. Some significant changes are obtained over pre-frontal region of brain. EEG signal analysis support that ADHD children improve their cognitive skills after the training.
