Alladi Ramakrishnan Hall

zeta(3), log(2) and pi

Kumar Murty

University of Toronto

The value of the Riemann zeta function at $3$ has been a mystery for over a century. Euler conjectured that it is an algebraic combinations of $\log (2)$ and $\pi$. We discuss the background and show that this is inconsistent with conjectures of modern algebraic geometry. This is a joint work with Payman Eskandari.
