Perturbations of spiky strings in flat and curved backgrounds

Rigidly rotating strings with cusps or spikes have been
investigated earlier days quite extensively in the context of cosmic strings. In recent times spiky strings were introduced in String Theory
by Kruczenski and have been extensively studied in the last decade and a half
by numerous authors, in the context of gauge-gravity duality. In this talk I will be talking about the perturbations of such strings
using the well--known Jacobi equations for small deformations about
extremal configurations, with the goal of studying their stability. Here specifically I will talk about three cases: 1) perturbations of spiky string solutions and their T-duals in $2+1$
dimensional flat spacetime, 2) perturbations of spiky strings in $2+1$ dimensional Anti-de Sitter spacetime (AdS$_3$) and 3) perturbations of giant magnons in $R \times S^2$.
