Recent advances in network theory enable us to study the interplay between the topological structure and the intrinsic dynamic states of all nodes. Here we track the spatio-temporal patterns of propagation of information along the network, such as the spreading of diseases, the response to a genetic perturbation or the onset of collective synchronization.

We analytically derive the response propagation, obtaining its dependence on the degree distribution, the distance from the perturbation and the intrinsic dynamics of each network. Our results uncover a deep universality in the propagation patterns crossing domains of inquiry, from disease spreading to technological failures and gene regulatory dynamics.
