Classical branching laws

Abstract: Classical branching laws refer to knowing the restriction of an irreducible, rational representation of the group $GL(n+1)$ (resp. $Spin(n)~ (n\geq 6), ~Sp(2n)$) to
$GL(n)$ (resp. $Spin(n-1), ~Sp(n-1)$). In a joint work with Sagar Shrivastav, we give a
new proof of the classical branching laws. The proof is in a sense the process of long division of polynomials applied to a relative Weyl character formula.
