Velocity statistics of Driven Granular gases

Granular materials are interesting not only from practical point of view, but as model systems which are away from equilibrium. An interesting feature is the Non-Maxwellian nature of the velocity distribution of the particles constituting a granular gas. We will discuss a simple model of driven granular gas, where it is possible to calculate the exact tail of the velocity distribution in its steady state. We also find that for the model, the velocity statistics depends on the statistics of the noise which models the driving.
