Studies of Brownian particle using stochastic thermodynamics

Conversion of heat into work and vice versa plays a crucial role in our everyday life, and optimal energy conversion is essential to fulfilling energy demands. Heat engines convert the input heat into useful work and heat pump transfer heat from a low temperature to a high temperature by consuming work. Schmiedl and Seifert introduced a microscopic heat engine working in a homogeneous thermal bath. We investigate the performance of Brownian heat pumps working in a heterogeneous thermal bath. Our results show that the performance of the Brownian yet non-Gaussian heat pump is significantly better for a short time period.
Further, we study the heat capacity in a non-equilibrium regime. We calculate the heat capacity of a Brownian particle at a constant length. Our results show that the heat capacity increases monotonically with process time.
