Room Temperature Superconductivity

G Baskaran

IMSc, Chennai

It is no more a dream. Some superhydrides become room temperature superconductors (RTSC) (not at Chennai temperatures), but at extraordinarily high pressures. Thapa and Pandey claim to see superconductivity above Chennai temperatures. Certain nanoscale sculpting of Ag and Au does the magic, resulting in ephemeral and fragile superconductivity. I will present an optimistic picture, using resonating valence bond theory, that the observed RTSC is indeed possible within solid state and quantum chemical constrants. Further I argue that serveral nanostructures (natural and man made) of all monovalent metals (Li, Na, K, Rb,Cs, Cu, Ag and Au) will exhibit RTSC to varying degrees.
