Coarsening arrest in three and two dimensional turbulence

A symmetric binary mixture when cooled below its critical temperature spontaneously phase separates. This phenomena is known as spinodal
decomposition. On the other hand, turbulence is known to enhance mixing.

We study the interplay of turbulence with phase separation. We show that the presence of turbulence arrests the coarsening process leading to formation of an emulsion. This in turn leads to a non-trivial modification of the energy transfer
mechanisms.
