V. S. Sunder is one of India's leading mathematicians with several important and beautiful contributions in the broad areas of operator theory and operator algebras. He is the author of several books, some of which are now standard texts, and is noted for his lucid and clear writing and lecturing style. This conference is being organized on the occasion of his 60th birthday in honour of his accomplishments as a mathematician, teacher, mentor and colleague.
