IMSc School in Theoretical Physics (ISTP)

We announce the first of a series of Summer Schools in Theoretical Physics at IMSc for students of Colleges in and around Chennai. The school's focus is to enhance the level of understanding of various aspects of Theoretical Physics among college students.

Preference will be given to students who have completed one year of M.Sc.

Topics to be covered

The topic this year will be Quantum Mechanics and in subsequent years, other parts of theoretical physics will be taken up.

Topics include Schroedinger equation, principles of quantum mechanics, time-independent and time-dependent perturbation theory, scattering theory, quantum theory of radiation, and relativistic quantum mechanics.

Duration of the School

The School will be held from 2–14 June, 2014, on all days except Sunday. Lectures begin at 9:30 AM and go on all day. There will be four sessions of lectures/tutorials each day and students are expected to attend all the sessions, in order to gain maximum benefit from the lectures.

Course Schedule and Topics being covered

Tea/coffee and lunch will be provided by IMSc to all the participants. Students are expected to make their own arrangements for travel to IMSc and return.

How to apply

This will be a rigorous course in Quantum Mechanics and only those who are serious in learning QM well need apply.
