Library User Guides

1. IMSc Library RFID System - HOW TO

RFID system facilitates users checking out and checking in of library materials on theiry own.

You will be interacting essentially with three components of Library RFID system:

a)Self Check-out;
b)Electronic Gates; and
c) Self Check-in/book drop.

Following are the instructions on how to use IMSc library RFID system:

a) Self Check-out System

This system is to facilitate users checkout/issue of library materials(books and boundvolumes) on their own. Steps involved in self-checkout:
a)Place RFID member card on the place provided in the system
b)Place book/bound volume(one at a time) on the space provided
c)Touch "Check-out" button
d)The system will display a table containing details(author,title,accn no.) of book being checked out.
e)Touch Exit button (to complete the transaction)

To issue more books, without removing the member card keep another book, touch "Check-out" button and "EXIT" button.

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR MEMBER CARD AFTER THE TRANSACTIONS.

b). Electronic Gates

The electronic gates have been configured to remain enabled (closed) outside office hours (between 6 pm and 9.30am next morning during monday through friday and all the time during holidays).
Access to the library can be gained only through RFID Member Cards during these timings.
The gates will remain disabled(open) during office hours so that walk-in users (users from other institutions) also can access the library without any access cards.

The gates will trigger alarm when user walks through with library books/bound volumes without proper check-out.

Outside Office Hours:
Please show your RFID ID card to the security and make an entry in the register provided at the library desk.

c). Self Check-in/Book Drop

Book drop has a slit through which books may be dropped one by one. Slit remains closed. User will have to show his/her rfid member card below the book drop slit for the slit to open (you will hear sound of the slit lock being released), gently book drop slit and drop the books one by one. While dropping, please keep the book spine facing the slit for smooth sliding through to the cart inside the book drop box.

2. Library WebOPAC:

Library WebOPAC provides bibliographic information about the holdings of the library materials including books, backvolumes, and CD-ROMs.

Steps involved in accesing and using Library WebOPAC:

* Click Library WebOPAC
* Select the search fields (author/title/etc.)
* Select the database from the database menu(books, CD-Roms,etc.)
* Type the search key (minimum three characters
* Click Go button

This will bring up the list of items available.

* Click the item you want to see the full bibliographic details.
* Click Copies Button to know the status of the book (on shelf or Issued out)

2. Books Purchase Request using LIBSYS:

1. Go to Library WebOPAC
2. Click Recommendation Button on the left panel
3. Enter your Member ID (member id is your email id. eg. pandian)
4. Click GO
5. Fill up the details about the books(title, author etc) that you want the library to acquire
6. Click Process Button.
7. Click Sign-Out Button

 

You can also monitor the status of your requests by following the same steps up to no.6. Then click "List" for viewing the status of the requests.
Click Sign-out button to exit

3. Your Library Transactions(Issue/Return) using LIBSYS:

1. Go to Library WebOPAC
2. Click Check-Outs Button on the left panel
3. Enter your Member ID (member id is your email id. eg. pandian)
4. Click GO button
5. List of items borrowed (Accn No. Item details and the Due date) will be displayed
6. Click Sign-Out button
