Exotic sphere embedded in complex hupersurface

Arghya Mondal

IMSc

Exotic spheres are manifolds which are homeomorphic to sphere but
not diffeomorphic. We will describe a class of exotic spheres called
Brieskorn manifolds. These are intersection of a complex hypersurface (that
is, the set on which a single complex polynomial vanishes), with a small
sphere around the origin, which is an isolated critical point of the
defining polynomial. We will indicate the algebraic invariants which
determine the topological and smooth structure of the Brieskorn manifold.
