Sharpening of Manin-Mumford

The Manin-Mumford problem asks to prove finiteness of the intersection of an algebraic curve in a commutative algebraic group with the torsion subgroup, apart trivial cases. In a joint work with D. Masser and U. Zannier, we prove that in some cases the torsion subgroup can be replaced by the maximal compact subgroup.
