The Institute of Mathematical Sciences, founded in 1962, is a
national institute for higher learning whose primary purpose is to foster
high quality fundamental research in frontier disciplines of the Mathematical
Sciences. It is an autonomous body funded by the Department of Atomic
Energy, Government of India.
Applications are invited for faculty positions from exceptional
candidates in various areas of Theoretical Physics. Currently, our
research is centered around the fields of Condensed Matter Physics,
Statistical Mechanics, High Energy Physics Phenomenology, QCD and Lattice
Gauge Theory, Quantum Field Theory, String Theory, Gravitation,
Mathematical Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Quantum Optics and Foundations
of Quantum Mechanics. At present, we have 25 faculty members in these
areas of theoretical physics. The Institute also has strong Mathematics
and Theoretical Computer Science groups.
We are also developing new areas of expertise, specifically in the
fields of Theoretical and Computational Biology, Computational Physics,
Quantum Information Theory and Astroparticle Physics. We
invite applications from researchers with a proven record of independence,
originality and leadership who can significantly enhance activities
in these areas.
Initial faculty appointments are made at the level of Fellow `E'
in the scale of (Rs.12,000 - 16,500) on a contractual basis. However,
candidates with a proven track record can be considered for higher
positions. Our Institute follows the Central Government patterns of pay and
allowances for its staff. Emoluments at the level of Fellow `E' are
approximately INR 22,000, and include medical and other benefits, as
applicable to Central Government Employees stationed at Chennai.
